Digital transformation in railway operations often starts with one practical challenge: how do you capture real-time data from legacy trains that were never designed for wireless connectivity?

GNS addressed this challenge by designing and deploying dedicated IoT LTE hardware that connects with onboard SACEM systems — the traditional train operation control system — and enables secure real-time train-log transmission to a central platform.

What we delivered

  • Custom IoT LTE hardware — self-developed industrial IoT devices installed on onboard systems, bringing previously offline trains into a connected LTE data environment.
  • SACEM data collection — real-time collection and interpretation of train logs from SACEM systems through onboard loggers.
  • Secure data transmission — encrypted, real-time upload of critical operational data to central backend platforms.
  • AI event and alarm classification — automatic classification of train events and alarm severity levels.
  • Instant fault alerts — millisecond-level notifications for critical faults and operational anomalies, enabling preventive maintenance.
